My Stay at the InterContinental: A Taste of Luxury in Mayfair

My trip to London was elevated by my stay at the InterContinental London Park Lane – and IHG hotel. Book your stay here.

When I booked our family vacation to London, I was not quite sure what sort of accommodations would work best for us, a family of three that includes a 3-year-old. I was given the opportunity to stay at the InterContinental London Park Lane hotel, so I took the chance to see what it’s like staying in luxury during a family trip.

First and foremost, I highly recommend it.

The level of comfort that we experienced was unmatched compared to other trips that we have taken in the past. As we pulled up to the hotel in our cab, the doorman was ready to assist us – including lifting my son out of the black cab as he sat strapped in his stroller. We arrived very early in the morning, so we did not expect to be let into our room just yet. We planned to ask the concierge to hold our luggage while we fought jet lag at a nearby park. But to my pleasant surprise, our room was available, and we went up immediately and took hot showers to wash off the long flight.

The room was quite comfortable with a bed big enough for all three of us. This is key when you have a tiny toddler who somehow manages to talk up two-thirds of our king size bed at home. Once my husband and son were settled, I slipped away to take advantage of the hotel spa on the first floor. I had booked an appointment the week prior, knowing that my muscles would probably be tense from the flight. I opted for a one-hour steam experience followed by a 30-minute massage and a 30-minute bespoke facial. It was relaxing, rejuvenating, and just what I needed to kick off my vacation.

Once I returned to the hotel room – refreshed by my spa treatments – we decided to go for a walk and explore nearby. The convenience of the location of the InterContinental London Park Lane cannot be touted enough. We were a short walk from Green Park which we rambled through to get to Buckingham Palace. The weather was perfect for a leisurely stroll, and this first evening was just the beginning of the many wonderful walks that we would enjoy throughout our trip.

After returning to the hotel, we were a bit too tired to venture out for dinner. Instead, we took advantage of the excellent in-room dining services. I ordered pasta, my husband got a burger, and we enjoyed a little mezze of hummus and olives. It was all delicious, and the service was fast, friendly, and exceeded our expectations.

The five nights that we stayed at the InterContinental were full of restful sleep, comforting food (including when I had a hankering for spicy pasta and ordered it to the room late one night), and kind staff. I will always appreciate the concierge who helped me find a sippy cup one evening after my son lost his at the London Eye. The beautiful arrangement of macarons and the bottle of wine that showed up unexpectedly as a thank you for being a rewards member was a lovely gesture. Everything about our stay went above and beyond what we imagined.

And thanks to InterContinental, I now have a taste of luxury hotel life and will not be turning back!
