This was not my first trip to Paris, but it was our first as a family of three. I knew from experience that I wanted two key things to make this trip with a toddler easier: walkability and an escape from crowds. When given the opportunity to stay at Hotel Indigo Paris Opéra, I jumped at the chance. It is a less-than-fifteen-minute drive from Gare du Nord, where our Eurostar train would drop us off. It is also about a fifteen-minute walk from the Louvre, one of the key destinations on our tourist list. Then of course, there is the convenient five-minute walk to the Auber metro station that makes it easy to travel around Paris and Île-de-France.

But despite the geographic convenience, Hotel Indigo is somehow tucked away in a quiet alley lined with quaint cafes and shops. We were both in the middle of everything and away from it all at the same time. It was the perfect escape that kept us near all that we wanted to see – including the beautiful and famous opera house nearby, Palais Garnier. But the walk back to the hotel was always quiet and peaceful, with my son dozing off in his stroller and ready for a good night’s sleep in the soft, comfortable bed.

One of the highlights of the hotel is the breakfast served. The petit déjeuner includes a delicious assortment of pastries, cheeses, ham, cereal, and fruit. But there is also a made-to-order menu that offers fresh coffee, eggs, omelets, pancakes, and crepes. The hotel staff who attended the meal were lovely, adding to the pleasant interactions we had with the concierge and the hotel manager. It was a good way to kick off the day before leaving the hotel and venturing out into the streets of Paris.

Walking along Rue Édouard VII, where the hotel is located, is an experience in itself. The many cafes and shops that line the street are charming, creating a very picturesque view as you walk through. We only stayed for two nights in Paris, but what a tranquil two nights they were.

From the bottle of champagne and bowl of fresh fruit that greeted us in our room to the smiling faces and “bonjours” from everyone in the hotel, this experience can only be described as positively delightful. I hope to be back in Paris soon and return to Hotel Indigo!
